This week we have an unexpected guest coming to us all the way from Hobart, in Tasmania, Australia. Catherine, of the lovely blog Little Glowing Lights is sharing her colorful, eclectic home with us today. catherine’s home is light, cozy but also spacious, and full of feminine style. catherine fills her home with lots of charming collections and homemade crafts, like her pretty garlands, which remind me of Little Glowing Lights. perfect. let’s drop in!

What is your idea of a perfect day in Hobart?
I love saturdays in Hobart, especially in summer, going to the Salamanca markets in the morning for fresh flowers and produce, and having a look around the second hand stalls. Then perhaps some lunch, lately I have been really enjoying the Jackman and McRoss Bakery in Battery Point, they have a very tempting sweet pastry selection. In the afternoon driving out about 30 minutes from the city to the antique stores at New Norfolk. I particularly love the Drill Hall, everything is beautifully presented.

What are a few of your favourite local shops?
We have lots of good smaller stores, Store & Co always have enticing window displays and sell a good mix of vintage and new home wares, Love & Clutter and the Maker for locally made gifts, and Habitat has a really good range of cook ware.

What’s your favourite bargain find?
I found a really great bentwood chair for $5 a few years ago, there were six available and in hindsight I really should have taken them all. I recently had mine painted black and am so pleased with it. I also think vintage fowlers vacola jars are great, only around $1 or $2, and can be used for so many different things, likewise little old doilies.

What is your biggest interior design nightmare or what would you never be caught dead with in your home?
Not such a big fan of hand painted stencils on walls or exposed bricks or big ugly leather couches.

Do you collect anything?
I have been collecting pieces from Dinosaur Designs over the past few years, mostly little bowls and dishes in the pinks and greens. They have such an incredible colour range, I love visiting their stores it’s like a rainbow explosion.

What’s your favourite feature in your home?
I love the high ceilings in my home, because it’s a fairly small they really help lighten the space, also the ceiling roses, mantles and bay window give the space character.

Do you have a guilty pleasure?
White chocolate (or even better Bruny Island white chocolate fudge), and magazines. I have far too many subscriptions including Jamie, Inside Out, Donna Hay, Real Living and I buy Living etc every month too.

What is your most treasured belonging?
I would feel completely lost without my camera. I also have a lovely Patrick Hall aluminum box that I was given a long time ago now.

Do you have a few Favourite online shops?
The book depository is one of the best online stores that I use regularly, not only are books so much more affordable in the UK but they also offer free postage. Also Etsy and Cath Kidston.

What are your favourite home décor/style books?
Flea Market Style by Emily Chalmers and Thrifty Chic by Liz Bauwens are a good mix of old and new. The Selby at Home book is on my must purchase list.

Do you have a favourite set design in a film?
Both the houses in Little Women and Pride and Prejudice feel like the perfect homes for those characters. oh and the amazing kitchens in Julie and Julia (well Julia’s!).

What are some of your favourite websites/design blogs to search for inspiration?
Design*Sponge, Decor8, Yvestown, sfgirlbybay, The Design Files, Oh Joy!, Design is Mine…I could go on!
