a trip to the brooklyn flea.

just like i did last saturday, we’re hopping on the subway and heading over to brooklyn. from the subway, you stroll through beautiful tree-lined streets and rows of old brownstones until you find yourself at the brooklyn flea. it’s not huge, but it makes up for its size with an array of lovely vintage and handmade wares, served up with some yummy freshly made food and drink.

it’s bright and sunny when you come up from the subway, and the walk to the flea market is almost as much fun as getting there. pops of great graffiti and wall art, fluttering banners against a bright blue sky, and lots of history to remind you you’re still in new york.

this is my kind of breakfast. grab a slice of toast drizzled with olive oil, herbs and fresh sea salt from scratchbread; or try a bacon maple cupcake from kumquat cupcakery. yum.

and, if you’re lucky, you might just run into the lovely artist claudia pearson, and swoop up one of her great prints, like we live in brooklyn baby, or a tea towel, like i did.

time to go…but the leisurely walk back towards the subway is just as sweet. don’t forget to stop and look around you. you never know what might catch your eye.

  6. Sigh, the Brooklyn Flea is amazing. I’ve only ever been during the winter months when it is in the Williamsburg Bank. Are Porchetta and The Milk Bar also at the outdoor one? If so, you must go! Best food vendors there!

  9. What brilliant shots. They jump from the page. Oh I crave for a US flea market. Such interesting things. We used to go to one in NYC but when we returned for a holiday in 2007 we were so disappointed that the area had been developed. They’ve obviously moved further afield now. Love the bikes, the bags, the clocks and the divine pink fire hydrant (and the flags of course). Pruxxx
