the shutterbugs: kelly ishikawa.

i’m in hurry up and clean/prep/second guess that particular decor decision mode for tomorrow, because there’s a photo shoot going on here — the first one of the new cottage i’ve just moved to. and i couldn’t be more excited to be having bay area photographer kelly ishikawa shooting it. you’re about to see why because i’m sharing some of her lovely work with you today. i’m so excited to see my new home as seen through kelly’s talented eyes, and then in a month or so in the pages of san francisco magazine.

kelly’s photographs have a very natural and candid look and i think that’s probably the ideal way to capture a space i live in — because although i definitely care about style, my taste is hardly what you’d call upscale and is a much more repurposed and vintage-inspired lived-in look. i think i most enjoy photographers like kelly’s work, that portray the way someone really lives — she seems to capture prefect imperfections.

  1. I think Kelly is immensely talented! I met her when Perish Trust opened and I became an instant admirer and loyal customer. Her work featured in Anthology magazine is fresh and unpretentious yet always leaves a little to the imagination.
Kelly’s own interiors and personal style are also spot-on!
Can’t wait to see what she does with your new space Victoria – between the two of you it’s bound to be wonderful.

  2. I. Love. This. Photography.

And I agree with you — photos that capture the “imperfections” are the most endearing and interesting and reflective of personality and LIFE. I also think these photos are the most difficult to take and require the most artistic, creative, inquisitive photographer’s eye, which makes them even more special. I can’t wait to see your home this way!
