before i moved to san francisco from los angeles (almost 20 years ago!) i considered moving to seattle. i’d had a boyfriend there, with an amazing home on lake washington, and i kind of fell in love with the city. even the rain had its charm — after all, it’s what made the city so green. so i went up there for a week on my own to test the waters so to speak, and stayed in a charming old home in the queen anne neighborhood and my room was an attic space above the main house. i loved its high, beamed white ceilings and floors, and the cozy way the place made me feel. i’d run down to pike’s place market, pick myself up some fresh ingredients and make a picnic dinner in my attic room, and dine by candlelight. i ended up opting for san francisco, my true home, but sometimes in my dreams, i live here — in a cosy attic apartment in seattle.

SEATTLE-APARTMENT

i’ll have beautiful white hardwood floors to make the apartment feel more spacious, and loads of vintage furniture from scouring the local seattle flea markets, including a great mid-century modern light fixture combined with a victorian ceiling medallion — i love the contrast of that look.

a big picture window will brighten my dining area and i’ll keep things nice and light in here, too, with accents of pale mint green, white walls and some industrial pendant lamps and a bold black & white striped rug to give the room a little drama, and more vintage finds including an old farm table combined withe a mix of modern chairs and a great old bench painted white.

the kitchen will be small, so my cupboards and shelves will be cluttered with mismatched china and dishes, and i’ll utilize copper hanging racks to make the most of the space.

i’ll have a very simple bedroom and pick up the green accents here, too and adding a touch of pale pink to create a feminine look. there will be nice windows in here too, with views of the space needle and lots of cozy quilts for those chilly seattle nights. home sweet, seattle home.

  1. These images are PERFECTION. I actually spent 3 of my college-age years living in Queen Anne. It’s the most beautiful, charming neighborhood, and your post is making me miss it!

  2. Hi Victoria,
I’m in love with this space! When you mention the pale green and pink colors, I realize I don’t even seem them at first because it looks like the rooms are simply reflecting those soft colors naturally. That’s what makes them so beautiful! And is that a COPPER sink in the kitchen?! Love it! As usual, I’m totally in sync with your style. Thanks so much for sharing your vision!

  3. LOVE. I also lived in Queen Anne, one block south of the that iconic view. My place was similar to this even! OH you took me back, thanks! Feels cozy indeed. Living minimalist is my kinda style.

      • Technically I live in Queen Anne, but it feels more like Fremont. I live in QA on the side that’s right over the Fremont Bridge. I walk to Fremont all of the time, but if I wanted to walk to the good stuff in QA I’d have to hike up a huge hill. That never happens. :)
