hi guys! it’s gab from the artful desperado with an almost-winter edition of edible rooms. if you live on the northern hemisphere, chances are you are already rocking the holiday look, you know? boots, big cozy sweaters, awesome scarves, the works! also, you most likely have started to indulge on sweets and comfort food (right?!).

since this season is all about feeling cozy at home, i thought that making a warm salad with lima beans, roasted yam, and wilted kale would be aces. it’s so tasty and easy to make and best of all, it’ll leave you feeling like you just went to a hug party.

warm lima bean salad with roasted yams and wilted kale


– 1 can of cooked lima beans (navy or northern beans work too)
– 1 big spanish onion, chopped
– 1 bunch of dino/lacinato kale, chopped
– 1 small yam, cut in cubes
– 2 cloves of garlic, minced
– a couple sprigs of fresh thyme
– sprinkle of chilli flakes
– salt, pepper


1. turn on the oven at 400F. cover a baking sheet with aluminum paper and place the yams, toss with a little bit of olive and salt and roast for about 15 min (until they’re cooked through – test by poking them with a knife) – remove from oven when done.
2. drain and rinse the lima beans. set aside
3. add canola oil in a pan, toss the chopped onion and sauté over medium-low heat. cook until onions have caramelized (about 10-15 min)
4. on a separate pan, add a bit of olive oil, chilli flakes, garlic, and a pinch of salt. cook over medium-low heat until garlic is golden brown, once it’s ready, toss the chopped kale and cook until wilted (about a couple minutes).
5. add the yams, lima beans, and kale to the pan with the caramelized onions, heat up, and adjust seasoning (make sure to deglaze the bottom of the pan with the juices from the kale).
6. serve hot!

  1. I would love to know more about that Egon Schiele painting – what’s the story there – did someone just paint a copy of the original on news paper or was it scanned/printed on newspaper?
