if you follow me on instagram, you may have seen photos of a little bash i threw last week. the lovely folks at women & whiskies invited me to host an evening of whiskey tastings at my home here in san francisco. i invited some of my friends and colleagues over to taste some of their best cocktails and learn a little bit more about how to order whiskey drinks like an expert. women & whiskies was started in 2010 when it became clear that women were interested in learning more about whiskey, but their interests weren’t really being taken seriously — the goal of women & whiskies is to provide women with knowledge so we are comfortable tasting, talking, and buying a spirit that has been traditionally marketed and advertised to men. i’m a whiskey girl and love a well-made cocktail, so yay for women, yay for whiskey!
The women & whiskies Portfolio includes a delicious collection of whiskies from around the world including Wild Turkey, Russell’s Reserve, Forty Creek, and Glen Grant and their very marvelous bartender and brand ambassador Lucia mixed us some fabulous cocktails using these whiskies along with some of their lovely mixes like aperol, campari, cynar and even a homemade peach mint shrub lucia whipped up. my favorite was the rye buck, which included Wild Turkey 101 Rye, Lime Juice, Ginger Syrup, Ginger Beer — so refreshing. you can find all the recipes lucia created for us on the women & whiskies website. oh, and that gorgeous chalkboard cocktail menu artwork was created by christine herrin.
It was so much fun to partner with women & whiskies and put this outdoor summer party together, but i couldn’t have made it successful without the help of some very creative and talented people — floral designer kiana underword of tulipina provided us some of the most gorgeous flower arrangements i have ever seen. truly — they were stunning and so imaginative with combinations of garden roses, zinias, beautiful greenery and even green apples. and lucky me, resident sfgirlbybay photographer and friend cindy loughridge photographed the event — she takes amazing photos, even while sipping some lovely cocktails!
our caterer was jennifer cho from kitchit and she outdid herself as well. she created scrumptious appetizers like peach, burrata, basil oil, sea salt, caramelized onion (served in porcelain soup spoons!) and for dessert beignets, filled with salted caramel — paired with whiskey, they were simply extraordinary!
our cocktails were served in these crazy fun vintage cocktail glasses i rented from frances lane and a few i found on etsy. their collection of party rentals is stunning and the pink goblets and highball glasses made the women & whiskies cocktails even more special. i love a fancy glass! if you’d like to check out more pretty instagram photos from my guests — check out the hashtags #whiskeygrams and #drinkpretty, and follow women & whiskies on instagram. they’re a fun and gracious group of women!

This post made possible in partnership with a women & whiskies but all opinions and thoughts are my own. thanks for the supporting the brands that make sfgirlbybay possible.
What a fun idea for a party! My girlfriends are all big whiskey drinkers, so I could definitely see us getting down on this, although I think you made it far more glamorous than we could with all those fresh flowers and catered food!
