i wonder if when husband & wife design team charles and ray eames designed their iconic fiberglass shell chair in 1949, they had any inkling of its longevity. their philosophy for design was always approached in the same way: Does it interest and intrigue us? Can we make it better? Will we have “serious fun” doing it? they must have had a good time designing such a fun, happy chair, don’t you think? These colors were labored over lovingly — Charles and Ray would spend endless hours in the factory, tweaking and making slight alterations to the specifications of each color option, often creating several chairs in one day in order to ensure perfection. with its bold colors, and playful design the shell chair is here to stay. i’ve long been a collector of these cheerful chairs, and i especially love a mix of multi-colored eames chairs. here’s a few looks i love.
