house to home.

there’s just something about an a-frame that is so comfy cozy. do you know what i mean? a-frames are usually tucked into an attic somewhere, and when they’re remodeled right, they can often offer up the best room, not to mention the best view, in a house. i’ve always wished i had one — ever since i was little i imagined an a-frame to be the perfect slumber party pad. now, i think of them as an ideal guest bedroom, or quiet home office. paint the floors, ceilings and beams white and an a-frame takes on a very scandinavian cottage vibe. here’s a few a-frame, loft-like spaces i could definitely live in.

  1. Love all the white! And I completely agree about the a-frame ceiling. When I was little I always wanted my bedroom to be in a cool refurbished attic. I’m not sure why, I guess there is just something cozy and special about it. Fun post.

  2. These are beautiful. The A-Frame reminds me of my old Fisher Price A-Frame house. Childhood and fantasy all wrapped up in one lovely package

  3. Yes! I love A-frames! They remind me of the snowy months and dark months filled with skiing, warm fires, hot chocolate, you get the picture. ps. Have you seen Chad Randl’s book “A-frame”? I bought it in SF last year and it’s fantastic.

  4. I love how much space and air they give to a room, without it feeling open or empty, especially when there are beams across. I love it in white, but I wonder how it would look with a darker color on the ceiling…

  5. Agreed! I still pine away for one I lived in in Vancouver in my 20’s and it just felt like my own little bohemian oasis. I dream about having one again, but my 6 foot 7 husband, understandably, doesn’t share the same obsession! Thanks for the trip down memory lane :-)
