have you heard about sprout yet? there’s been a lot of buzz about HP’s new and really innovative immersive computer platform — which is a fancy way of saying that sprout is a new creativity station blending the physical and digital world we live in. HP very kindly invited me to try out sprout and see how it could improve my way of blogging.

what i immediately could see was what a time saver it would be for me when it comes to blogging, or for anyone designing — interior and graphic — because sprout’s built-in hi-res camera replaces the need for a scanner — you simple lay your image on the touchpad, touch the camera on the monitor and boom! it scans your images right there on your desktop, and then with a swipe the images appear on the touchpad’s blank canvas, allowing you to resize, move, and manipulate images with the touch of your finger. everything you see below i scanned and resized and moved around and made three revisions within 15 minutes! and for me time is everything when my goal is to share new content with you every single day.

let’s say you’re an interior designer — you can comp up a room for a client using sprout like the one above i created in minutes, email it to them, review and make revisions instantly. all those scraps of ideas can be instantly photographed by sprout’s built-in camera, played around with until your happy — moving the images around and resizing them on the touchpad, deleting what you don’t like and adding what you do. when you’re happy add text, press the camera button one more time and voilá – your comp is ready to send to the client within minutes. sprout may just be your new BFF.

bloggers, artists and illustrators like todd selby are using sprout to create amazing 3-d artwork (i scanned that dish of washi tape in 3-d and it took less than a minute), drawing and painting right on the touchpad — taking things a step up from their usual work and challenging their narratives. for me, i can create inspiration boards and collages to demonstrate my design ideas with you in a way that is new and creative. HP has reimagined the PC and jammed everything you need into a sprout — it’s a traditional computer and monitor, hi-res camera, 3-d scanner and creative workspace all in one. sprout gives us the tools to express ourselves and get our work done more quickly and efficiently. i think seeing sprout in action via videos of designers like todd selby and jacob brown of blackbook magazine using it will give you a really good idea of its capabilities — so visit the sprout site to check them out.

  1. That looks amazing! I feel like there are some great things surpassing what Apple has. Also, love your rug! Would you share where you got it?

  2. Cool to see the new technology that is available to us, as it’s very hard to keep up! I hardly ever have the need to scan anything, but I take lots of photos for my blog. I’f be curious to know if the photo quality of the built-in camera is good enough to post on a blog, like your photographs above, or if it’s mostly intended for designers.
