a perfect day at peet's / sfgirlbybay

long time san francisco locals, peet’s coffee & tea recently invited me to try out their new iced blended javiva made with fresh brewed coffee, so i thought i’d make an extra special day of it. peet’s has several locations all over the bay area (alfred peet opened the very first shop in berkeley in 1966!), but my very favorite cafe is their spot on fillmore street at the corner of sacramento street. it’s such a pretty spot, an older building covered in great green tiles with little outdoor cafe tables — one of my favorite spots to people watch when i lived in the neighborhood. so i hit the farmer’s market just down the hill at fort mason and picked up some lovely lilacs and produce and then hiked my way up to peet’s to treat myself to an iced blended javiva and a snack.

that javiva was mighty delicious, and so pretty, too. someone on the street actually stopped me and asked, “what is that? i need one!”. another cool thing about peet’s — you can bring your own glass for a discount on your purchase. so i had them fill up my vintage Ball jar and top it with whipped cream and then a swirl of caramel. oh yes – yum! next time you’re near peet’s i highly suggest a stop. this particular peet’s in pacific heights is right next to one of my favorite new and used bookshops, so if you really want to treat yourself, stop in there and pick up a great book, then grab a fresh brewed javiva, and sit a spell and watch san franciscans walking by — it’s quite a lovely way to spend an afternoon.

  1. I love that Peets! That location, and the Laurel Village one take me back to early foggy mornings doing schoolwork, stressing about my future and watching all the people come and go. Sigh…

  2. My husband and I had our first non-date at that Peet’s!!! (and 6 months later got married in the little St John’s church on Arguello.) In our people watching that afternoon, we saw George Hamilton twice! He’s still my lucky charm, 11 years later, and I still love my first-date man, and I still live 5 blocks from a Peets, but not in SF. *sigh* Thanks for the flash-back fodder!
