sometimes when i think about beach house style, i like to think in terms of a more sophisticated color palette. instead of say nautical blue, i think neutrals, black, white — the colors of sand, black coral, thatched huts, and the color of the ocean under the moonlight. ever since my trip to tulum i’ve been obsessed, and strongly impacted by the style i saw represented there, so my new house is taking on quite a bit of this vibe. i’ve still got my pops of pink here and there, but much more understated. i’ll be sharing soon, after a few renovations, but in the meantime, here’s an idea of the kind of looks i’m really loving. an eclectic mix of mid-century modern, meets gidget, meets beach hut sophisticate.

Just returned from a week’ s beach vacation. Our rental had the cliched nautical blues, tropical neons, etc. except for the kitchen/ living area which was all neutrals. Such a soothing look after a day on the beach. We were all very impressed and inspired. I think you are really on to something.
You have read my mind! I especially love that painting in the first picture
COOCOO FOR COCO
the art selection in this is so good. on point.
This is gorgeous!!
Perfect Beach House retreat!
gee Gidget, when you get your place finished you should invite the gang over for a clambake! Love, Moondoggie. ;)
Seriously, these images have such a nice relaxing vibe, thanks for the inspiration!
Love all the pics! And I had the same feeling when I went to Tulum, I just loved the style there: the hotels ,restaurants and shops all had this vibe. Can’t wait to see what you’ll do in your home!

You are so talking to me with this post. I have a photo on my phone from, of all places, a wall mural at the Disneyland Hotel Adventureland wing — very Swiss Family Robinson. Lots of green foliage in shades that border from pale to nearly black. Beige and sandy hues in the huts and beach. Hints of rosy pinks, blues, and creamy whites. It’s been the inspiration for the colors inside and outside my home in coastal OC.
Absolutely love this color scheme and relaxed, yet subtly sophisticated beachy vibe! Great, creative take on an ocean/ beachy California feel. Excited to see photos of your house as becomes ready to share with your readers.
