here’s a peek into a beautiful new show that just debuted in san francisco. longtime friends natalie chanin (renowned textile artist + founder and designer of alabama chanin) and heath ceramics have collaborated to host a month-long exhibit and pop-up shop entitled alabama on alabama at heath’s factory building in the city’s mission district. the lively collection provides a sweet little glimpse into the soul of the modern south

inside the boiler room, you’ll find a collection of one-of-a-kind pieces designed by natalie, as well as the work of other fellow southern artist friends. these include mixed media art by butch anthony, folk drawings by john henry toney, photography by rinne allen + exclusive garments and textiles designed by natalie for this show. one features a kaleidoscope of heath’s signature vases sewn into a quilt.

in the retail showroom you’ll find a selection of southern treats from natalie’s many maker friends, including whiskey infused marmalade, smoky bbq sauces, bourbon salts, cocktail mixers, record albums + some of natalie’s hand-dyed indigo garments, pillows and table linens.

lastly new pieces have been added to the alabama chanin + heath ceramics tableware collection. this signature line features hand-etched patterns found in nature and in natalie’s stitch designs. the expanded dinnerware introduces a new bird’s nest design and a beautiful indigo color.

the alabama on alabama gallery + pop-up runs from july 24th to august 23rd. and the new dinnerware collection is available in heath ceramics stores and online. if you’re in san francisco or making your way here this summer, be sure to visit heath and catch this exhibit.

  1. I adore Natalie and Butch’s artwork. I live in the small town area (Florence, AL) where Natalie has her home base, and lives. Butch is always around our town as well – they are amazing people and SO talented. I’m so happy San Fran gets to share in the awesome sauce that is these two and their talented friends!!!
