last week i had the pleasure of hosting my very first party in my new home along with my partners, women & whiskies. i had the idea of hosting an asian-influenced evening with whisky cocktails paired with chinese and japanese cuisine. my first task: to hang a ton of paper and silk lanterns and globe lights across my patio! i searched out vintage lanterns on etsy, and smaller paper lanterns on amazon, and then located a company that sells really hard to find hand-painted chinese silk lanterns (they tell me there’s only one 70-year-old man running the company that make these pretty lanterns anymore!). paired with my favorite women & whiskies, i hoped to put on a beautiful lantern lit soirée under the stars!

with the help of mady of women & whiskies we enlisted bartender extraordinaire rosie ruiz who created the most amazing whiskey cocktail recipes — all from her imagination and ingenuity! rosie mixed up the pre-tea young thing, which consisted of wild turkey 101 bourbon, thai iced tea, condensed almond milk foam and even boba! that cocktail was my personal favorite, but she also made: the dream of greenie — a delicious mix of Glen Grant Single Malt Scotch, Pistachio Orgeat, Lemon & Matcha, and topped with a pretty pineapple leaf. The Jean Jacket was comprised of Forty Creek Whisky, lapsang souchong Tea Infused Jackfruit Shrub, Honey, Lemon, Soda & Mint. and our pretty punch bowl was filled with rosie’s Only the Melone-ly Punch: Russell’s Reserve Bourbon, Lemon, Lemongrass Tea, Melon Puree, Yuzu Bitters, Champagne & Soda — and topped with floating daisies! you can find all these amazing whisky cocktail recipes on the women & whiskies website, and if you’d like to see more images of our evening, check out our instagram hashtag #drinkprettywhisky and @womenandwhiskies’ instagram feed.

to make our whisky cocktails look extra special, i rented vintage goblets from casa de perrin — for an exotic touch i used pink, green and jet black glasses and they looked stunning filled with our pretty whisky cocktails, topped with bamboo-inspired straws for sipping, and even a few kitschy cocktail umbrellas just for fun.

to help make the outdoors comfy and cosy i called on the perfect party partners — found rentals who provided me with a gorgeous antique black bar table, vintage Persian rugs, and colorful poufs for backyard lounging. i turned to my favorite floral designer, kiana of tulipina, who flew all the way down from san francisco to create some incredible asian-inspired arrangements for the party. she very creatively utilized a mismatched collection of chinese tea cups and bowls to complete her fantastic floral vision.

our caterer hungry bear, was over-the-top amazing! Chef Jennie Trinh and her team made the most delicious menu, including hamachi spoons with citrus, chili & ponzu sauce; shrimp & corn tempura with cilantro aioli; crispy tofu spring rolls; yellow fin tuna poke; creamy walnut rock shrimp; mochiko chicken sliders and a light and lovely panna cotta for dessert — the perfect end to what i hope was a perfect evening for all my guests. as always, my heartfelt thanks to women & whiskies for inviting me to create these pretty parties!
