decorative circular mirror and glass bell jars / sfgirlbybay

well-placed decorative mirrors can do a lot for a room — from reflecting pretty light or a view of nature from a nearby window, to making a space look a bit larger. i’ve got quite a few vintage mirrors i’ve collected over the years placed in various nooks and well-lit places around my home. in my dining room, my george nelson bubble lamp reflects perfectly into an oval mirror over my console — it looks pretty gorgeous at night. i love unusually shaped mirrors or ones that are trimmed in gold, metal or bronze — this is a cool metal mirror (that is also really functional because of its shelf) and these gold-trimmed mirrors are pretty, too; and this shield mirror has a great vintage vibe. the more unique, the better — and a grouping of mirrors looks great, too.

  1. The thing about mirrors is that they suit everybody’s taste and they really work magic with light in a room. The apartments we’re renovating had gigantic, fabulous carved, gilded mirrors above the fireplaces–and we bought the mirrors with the property. I think we’ll even add a few more.

  2. My designer mother put a mirrored back splash in my grandmother’s apartment to add light. I put one in my kitchen when I bought my own place!
