butterfly chairs are a mid-century-modern classic originally designed in Buenos Aires in the 1940’s — but their simple beauty and comfort just never seem to go out of style. my parents had them back i was little and i still find them such an interesting addition to a living room or outdoor patio. they’re sophisticated looking but they’ve still got a fun, “i don’t take my decor too seriously” vibe going on. there’s an interesting little read here on the history of the butterfly chair and you can find some great reproductions at the citizenry; CB2; and urban outfitters (as well as just the frames, too). for vintage classics try chairish, ebay, etsy and your local flea markets — i see them out there all the time!

I can tell you now – my life would be immensely boosted by a leather butterfly chair. That black woven number would fit in beautifully too. I love them with a passion.
I have loved butterfly chairs, particularly leather ones, for the longest time! I love how relaxed and easy they feel in a home.
Butterfly chairs have font memories rooter in camping for me and soccer games. I love this upgraded versions though!

Love me the butterfly chairs!
When I was a little girl in the late 60’s / early 70’s, my parents decorated the basement in Danish Modern (“Mid-Century modern” in contemporary terms).
My favorite was the butterfly chair — I was small enough that I could sit with my head in one of the bottom ‘wings’ and my feet in a top wing. Spent hours and hours reading that way.
