arches are just so pleasing to the eye — don’t you agree? whether they’re arched alcoves, doorways, windows or some other architectural wonder, i find them to look just splendid. the curve of an arch is just so special — like it took just a little more effort to achieve. i’m starting my remodel of my bathroom and back bedrooms (more on that shortly) and there’s one wall that will now come to an awfully abrupt end, so i’m thinking of creating a built-in, arched inset shelving (something quite like this just below), so i suppose i’ve had arches on my mind. here’s a whole bunch of lovely arches to inspire.

  1. Why is it archways add such a certain je ne sais quoi? We have a huge arch in between our kitchen and sitting room here in our old French farmhouse, it even has a huge handmade door, arched at the top to fit!

  2. I’m quite smitten with arches as well. I just uncovered an old arched inset shelf in my living room while removing some paneling. Can’y wait to hear about your plans!

  3. When building your arched nook, consider building in shelves with aged wood — particularly if you have wood in other areas of your home. It adds warmth, and a sense of age. Rounded edges around the nook, and on the wood, soften the look as well. Hoping you’ll soon share pics!!

  4. Your plan for a niche with arch sounds lovely. I am reminded of the small one in my grandparents Eagle Rock home where the phone lived. Grandma painted the inside a soft blue and that really popped out the arch. Have fun with yours!
