as you’ve probably realized from seeing my built-in bookcases, i’m a bit of a reading fiend. when i have a good book in my hands it takes me away for hours on end. i’ve been known to read into the wee hours of the night and wake up ready to dive in again. so it always saddens me a bit when i hear that perfectly bound books might go by the wayside someday. say it ain’t so! there’s nothing quite like the beauty of a home library and books, even magazines — print, if you will, of all kinds gets my heart rate going. so when i saw this wonderful print, ‘hold me i’m real’ i was reminded how much i love books on display. to me, they’re the makings of a real home, and i love perusing friends’ bookshelves. some of my favorite books lately have been a gentleman in moscow, isaac’s storm (everything i’ve read by erik larson is amazing!), along the infinite sea and edgar & lucy. put your books out there, my friends! be book proud and show it.

  1. I’ve always said I’m not the kind of woman who buys expensive jewelry and clothes, instead, I buy books! I’m passionate about reading and buying books, it’s just part of who I am. I remember a field trip to a gorgeous public library in Los Angeles when I was six years old and apparently it made quite the impression on me. And nothing is more fun then to visit someone’s home and see the titles of the books on their shelves. It’s very telling about who they are I think.
I recently finished The Best of Us by one of my favorite authors, Joyce Maynard. Such a wonderful and sad story about how she met and lost her husband to cancer only a few years after meeting him. On a lighter note, she met him on, so maybe I’ll give that a shot one of these days lol.

  2. Books make any room come alive and they also make it personal, I think they are one of the greatest decorating accessories one can have, it doesn’t matter if you use 5 or 50 each one has a story to tell and each is fascinating.

  3. I am reading the Kristen Lavransdattar trilogy and am in the middle of the final book and reading as slow as I can because I love it SO MUCH. Talk about taking you away to another place and time. I also just read School for Love by Olivia Manning because I fell in love with her Balkan and Levant trilogies. It makes me so happy when I discover authors that are old to the rest of the world but new to me. Ever since I was a little girl I dreamed of having a library, a dedicated room like I read about in Jane Eyre, in my house. When I bought my first and current house in SE DC I immediately converted the littlest bedroom into a library; there is just enough space for 3 normal bookcases and one skinny one and a chair and ottoman to put up my legs and it is one of my favorite places to spend my time!
