white walls and light bedding. / sfgirlbybay

i had good intentions when i decorated my bedroom in shades of black — i really did. but now i’m not finding it quite as soothing as i might have liked. or, i could just be bored with it, which as you know happens to me a lot when it comes to my decor. but i did enjoy it while it lasted. one of the perks, but also the downfalls of my job is constantly seeing new design ideas out there on the internet and so i can become easily restless about my interiors, thus changing them up a lot. but hey, it’s also fresh content for you guys to read about as i reinvent my home one more time. this time i’m changing up my bedroom and moving in an opposite direction, away from black and into the light. pale white, perhaps some pale pink or yellow accents, or simply naturals — like off-white against white. i’m selling off my big black ‘batgirl’ bed and switching to a low platform bed — modernica’s case study bed with cane headboard with lots of comfy white linens. and the floors in the bedroom aren’t in perfect condition, so perhaps i shall paint them white. i’m either stripping (am i crazy?!) the two coats of paint on my black armoire down to the natural wood, or painting it yet another coat of white. here are some images i’ve been stashing away from a secret pinboard i’ll now make public — just for you.

  1. black is elegant but it completely absorbs the light. You will love a light white bedroom–just did this and feel like I go to bed in a cloud at night.

  2. I’m with you 100%. I’m totally feeling these pale colors and pale natural wood/rattan. It’s just so refreshing. We painted our master bedroom a dark salmon several years ago, and I got sick of it really quickly. Now it’s a pale, pale pink and it’s just so good.

  3. I love the direction you’re going except for one thing , and I say this from experience – don’t paint your floors – its a nightmare to remove when you get tired of it , which you will. The floors may not be in great condition but they’ll look so right with your new naturals and off whites over whites.

  4. Switching to linen bedding has been one of the most enjoyable aspects of my bedroom change up. Besides the ultimate in cozy comfort, I never tire of the relaxed feel and look. It really is cloud-like! I won’t ever have a formal look in bedding again.

  5. I love the direction you’re going! I, too, am drawn to dark and moody interiors at times, but what I feel most calm living with is light and white and texture. I can’t wait to see what you decide on your floors. I’ll soon be building a farmhouse in a rural area of Texas and I’m tempted to go with soft white creamy floors, or a distressed version of this. I want something that looks good with age!

Thank you, Victoria . . . I’ve been following your blog for years and always love your content!
