prepare to have envy for the good life — you know the kind. a simple, yet beautifully designed and built home, in the middle of almost nowhere, but actually in a clearing in the serene but wild woods of new england. this is the very wabi-sabi home of designer Julie O’Rourke of Rudy Jude — a kidswear brand out of Maine, and her architect partner Anthony Esteves who built their very stunning home by hand. together with their adorable son, they live in this modern rustic home called the soot house on the island of Spruce Head, maine. julie’s designed a line of children’s and women’s clothing that is as good for the planet as their environmentally-friendly home, and good for your health, too. All of their cotton is 100% organic and ethically sourced and dyed with 100% natural dyes, keeping toxic chemicals out of our water sources and far away from you and your kids. for more uplifting lifestyle images and inspiration, be sure to follow julie on instagram.

Wow!! This home is so so beautiful! I love so much about it, the textures, colors, open-ness while still being cozy. It’s so fun to glimpse how other people live. Personally, I’d never in a million years be able to relax here, I’m too anxious…too many ledges and potential dangers for me, but I sure love admiring it from a distance :)
I wonder if you would consider, in general, adding information – in any profiles like this one – how much things cost? For example, the price of the land, the price of building materials, the amont paid to contractors (if any), for plumbing, etc,? I personally would find that information useful. It would be a bit like the NYT features of what x $ gets you in abc places. As someone who aspires to simolar aesthetics in a home to those you profile here, that background information would be wonderful to have.
Gorgeous home and beautiful profile!
What a gorgeous place. My partner and I hope to build in the future- this is great inspiration. Thank you.
