this week i thought i’d share what some of the women i admire are up to! so many of my friends and colleagues have talents that are deserving of a little love that friday finds seemed like the perfect place to tell you about them. we hear so much bad news lately i’m in the mood for some inspiring women — how about you? there’s nothing like the stories of other inspiring women to get your own creative juices flowing. i hope you’ll be as inspired as i am!

xo, victoria

  1. i’ve been a fan of amber el-amin and her collection of imported Moroccan rugs forever and we’ve shared them on the blog quite a few times. but now, amber has gone next level and opened her own beautiful bed & breakfast in marrakesh, morocco where we’re all welcome to book and stay. a gorgeous spot nestled beyond garden pathways lined with orange trees, near to the village of Tahanout, it was recently featured in vogue, and amber is also killing it with a new resort fashion and accessories collection.
  2. design*sponge has long inspired us all and now founder grace bonney has created an inspiring new magazine, good company, whose mission is most admirable: all stories deserve a place to be celebrated and understood. With an emphasis on the power of inclusivity, community, and embracing our differences Good Company provides motivation, inspiration, practical advice, and a vital sense of connection and community for women and non-binary creatives at every stage of life and each issue focuses on one overarching theme, including Change, Fear, Community, Mentors, Money and much more.
  3. one of my best friends and fellow bloggers, bri emery of designlovefest is constantly astounding me with her entrepreneurial skills. not only has she become a chef-extraordinaire (watch for her instagram stories and visit her food column featuring some killer recipes), but she’s also just designed a sweet luggage suite for target and it’s just lovely! bri’s also been doing a lot of very personal growth of late and her instagram stories have some really insightful advice on getting right with ourselves in what’s been a pretty challenging year for all of us.
  4. a new friend i’ve recently made is interior designer tiffany howell of silver lake’s coolest interiors boutique, night palm. if you live in the area or coming to visit soon, you must make a trip! not only is she talented, she’s just a lovely person and tiffany has designed beautiful, eclectic homes all over L.A. (including designlovefest’s) and has just completed the very chic and cool gold diggers hotel and bar. if you’re in need of an interior designer, tiffany is amazing.
  5. one of my all-time favorite blog contributors (going back a bit!) danielle krysa of the very brilliant the jealous curator has a new book out a big important art book profiling 45 Unstoppable Female Artists — and Projects to Help You Become One! Walk into any museum, or open any art book, and you’ll probably be left wondering: where are all the women artists? a big important art book (Now with Women) offers an exciting alternative to this male-dominated art world, showcasing the work of dozens of contemporary women artists alongside creative prompts that will bring out the artist in anyone! oh and if you’re in L.A. danielle will be chatting about her book at skylight books in los feliz this saturday at 5pm!
  6. bay area artist leigh wells was one of the first people to encourage me to quit my day job and blog full time. her inspiration catapulted me out of a career that was silently killing me and helped me create a space all my own. her artwork is a continuing inspiration for me as i’ve watched it evolve over the years i’ve known her and her latest works are no different. among some of her recent endeavors leigh started making collages using a found stash of vintage books and repurposing their covers — and they’re stunning! check out leigh’s site for much more inspiration.
