as i head off to paris tonight all by myself, i find myself much relieved to have discovered The New Paris by lindsey tramuta. it’s not that i’m not excited to be heading to paris, it’s just that i find it slightly intimidating. i don’t speak much french (but i’m learning) so that’s a big part of my irrational fear. but this book is making me feel much more like i could fit in — it’s The New Paris after all and lindsey shares all these wonderful new shops, cafes, bars and even brew pubs run by entrepreneurial souls that i feel like i can relate to much more readily than perhaps the old guard. What is The New Paris at a glance? It’s at once a movement and a spirit. You might also call it the rise in the city’s creative class or a focus on making the everyday experience better for Parisians across all areas of life — dining, drinking, shopping and craftsmanship, daily life. Lindsey is a blogger, food & travel writer based in Paris by way of Philadelphia, and as full-time francophile is the ideal person to author The New Paris. the beautiful photographs by Charissa Fay perfectly pair with lindsey’s enticing introductions to these creative new spots — so much so that i’m wondering how i’m going to fit as many as i can into two short days in paris before i head off to lyon. anyway, i seem to be on a roll when it comes to reading and posts about great books of late, but i for one never tire of great reading material, so i don’t intend to stop anytime soon. long live print, and vive la france!
