I’ve been following Jeska Hearne of Lobster and Swan for several years now, and she is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to resourcefulness. This lady can truly create magic with a heap of recycled materials, found objects and thrifted wares. She’s completed another beautiful project along with her husband and remodeled their kitchen, using reclaimed wood, recycled crates, and pipes from underneath the floorboards.

There are so many good ideas here — I love how they covered their exhaust fan with oak lath from a restoration center and used small curtain rings with clips to securely hold onto tea towels. They also sawed a gifted crate in half to create two shelving units, displaying their lovely wares — I see several things I’ve found at my local thrift stores for a couple of dollars (and a few similar items I shouldn’t have left behind. Oh, the vintage regrets!). The plaster behind the shelving really elevates their collection and gives the kitchen a sophisticated, Old-World flair. Some of the other shelving was made from a eucalyptus tree that fell down in their yard and was taken down to the sawmill, where they turned it into planks. I’m impressed. Thanks for such a lovely and inspiring lesson in reusing and recycling, Jeska!

cheers, ezz.
