it’s no secret i’m completely in sync and a fan of interior designer leanne ford’s eclectic aesthetic. it’s everything i love about design — uniquely unexpected, a little bit quirky and a brilliant balance of vintage and modern. so i’m very excited that leanne invited me to share an exclusive on a recent episode of her HGTV show restored by the fords. in this episode, Leanne and her brother Steve Ford beautifully restore the rineman house — a newly purchased, 1930s farmhouse in the country. Leanne highlights the home’s existing beauty while bringing out more of its character with modern-bohemian touches including whitewashed beamed ceilings (i want these in my kitchen!), natural hardwood floors and a white-on-white color scheme that really opens up the space. to watch this inspiring episode tune into restored by the fords — i watch on hulu or wherever you watch HGTV — it’s definitely my favorite home restoration show and the most relatable one i’ve discovered thus far. you can also follow leanne on instagram and hop over here to see more inspiring design projects from leanne. you can also find leanne’s fabulous new lighting collection at target.

That was my house! My dad moved in as a 13-year old with his family in 1947. He and Mom relocated to Elgin, IL when they got married, but Dad bought the house from his dad when Grandpa retired. So we (Dad, Mom and six kids) moved in During the summer of 1973.
With my sister Jane’s help, I refinished those hardwood floors in 2008 when my parents were away on vacation. We were sure excited to hear such high praise for how nice they looked!!
Our entire family is thrilled for the Rinemans to be able to start a brand new family of memories in a home that we Schell’s called ours for 71 years, and we love the wonderful changes that the Fords employed without any harm to the integrity of what the original home was meant to be like.
Thanks for sharing the beautiful pictures. Those floors sure do look mighty fine.
Hi Pete!
That is so amazing – what a special place to grow up! I’m so glad Leanne and Steve kept the original integrity of your home – they do such an admirable job of doing that. Thank you so much for writing in and letting us in on your special history with the house! Cheers!
Beautiful floors for sure!
