my friends and i have a sunday night ritual of getting together for a ‘family potluck’. it’s a special tradition with friends, just relaxing and winding the weekend down before the work week starts — it’s always something to look forward to, rather than dreading the end of the weekend. so when tillamook told me about their new ice cream packaging, i thought what a fun way to step up our usual get-togethers and host a sunday night sundae-making movie night. tillamook’s flavors are so nostalgic tasting for me — the oregon strawberry tastes like when we used to churn ice cream and fresh fruit at home when i was a kid, and the birthday cake flavor is like biting into your childhood birthday parties — it tastes just like a scoop of vanilla on top of white birthday cake with sprinkles. i’m telling you, i felt like i was five all over again.

to prepare for our sundae-making movie night, i hung a white sheet on the wall, found a great old black & white flick to project, and cozied up the living room with plenty of cushions and blankets. then i set about creating the ultimate sundae bar with a few of my favorite tillamook flavors, like mudslide, mint chocolate chip (my go-to flavor), and white chocolate raspberry and of course, old-fashioned vanilla for the purists at heart. i gathered wafer cookies, cones, sprinkles, hot fudge, salted caramel, and chocolate sauce and natural whipped cream, nuts and cherries to top off all that delicious ice cream. it couldn’t have turned out any more fun and although we barely watched the flick, we definitely had a memorable evening that made us feel like kids again. for your own movie night with friends, check out where you can buy tillamook ice cream near you.
