i think perhaps where i found commonality among this week’s friday finds is that they all shared a super inspiring vintage modern mix. from victorian’s made over with small contemporary touches to some complete renovations, i found myself longing to decorate with those always enviable tall ceilings and ornate crown molding. enjoy the look and happy weekend!

  1. erin hiemstra from apartment34’s beautiful victorian remodel was featured in domino, beautifully photographed by seth smoot, but you’ve also gotta see the before and after’s on erin’s blog. holy wow — her vision was nothing short of miraculous.
  2. i love this juxtaposition of such ornate curved crown molding paired with the updated modern built-in kitchen shelving. does that not look functional and yet utterly amazing?
  3. the styling of this living room space by studio cd design is another grand example of a perfect vintage modern mix — pairing a victorian velvet sofa with contemporary coffee tables looks smashing and so unexpected.
  4. i could while away a weekend getaway in this dreamy bedroom, especially how it’s stacked with all that lovely reading material. i always envy this very effortless and casual ‘book look’ but seem hard-pressed to quite pull it off.
  5. this industrial chic bathroom just makes me swoon. i love the old white subway tile with its inset shelving and those fabulous vintage metal-framed glass doors — i really can’t get enough of metal framed doors like this.
  6. i really love the way they’ve added this dramatic wainscoting simply by adding a layer of dark paint, giving a pretty ordinary bathroom a whole new, modern look. but then they paired it with a beautiful vintage beveled mirror as the pièce de résistance.
  7. this is definitely one of my all-time favorite homes and i love it because they’ve got such an eclectic collection of antique and contemporary furnishings all mixed up in one big old victorian. have a look at the entire tour — i think you’ll love it, too.
  8. this is yet another gorgeous home and what i like about this is, again, the pairing of the modern framed photographic print with the antique settee and contemporary lighting sconce. it’s all so simple and yet it works beautifully as a team.
