in honor of my new hometown, laguna beach (it’s almost been a year!), i thought it might be nice to share laguna’s own hotel joaquin this week — a petite boutique resort nestled above beautiful shaw’s cove (just a short stroll from the hotel to this secluded, beautiful beach). not only are the grounds and view gorgeous, but the renovation to this retro hotel is simply stunning — and they’ve really thought of everything to make you feel welcome — from snorkel gear to beach umbrellas and bikes. the chef here is outstanding, too, and breakfast on the terrace overlooking the sea is a must. drinks and board games in the charming bar area with its cozy fireplace are just what we need for a weekend away. we’re just going to grab our comfiest gear and hit the road down south — a cozy favorite hoodie, favorite graphic tee paired with bensimon sneakers and a cute striped skirt. don’t forget french sneakers, flip flops and a cute swimsuit and we are good to go to the beach! while either poolside or down near the surf, think about reading Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents by isabel wilkerson, beautifully written, original, and revealing, Caste is an eye-opening story of people and history and a reexamination of what lies under the surface of ordinary lives and of America life today — beyond race, class, or other factors, there is a powerful caste system that influences people’s lives and behavior our the nation’s fate.

*Le sigh*. Would love to be hanging out here right now.
I hope you read this book; Caste. It is the most disturbing and enlightening book experience I have ever read. It has changed my entire belief system.
I know. I’m reading it right now, but it had such an effect on me, I had to take a break. I am very disappointed in America’s past and how much of it has not been told (and should be taught in school). It’s a lot to take in (especially under Covid conditions and so much out of sorts in the world right now) but I will finish soon. I love her writing and The Warmth of Other Suns was so enlightening, too.
Wow. I’ve lived here in SoLag for 15 years and I’ve never seen the inside of the hotel. Great post.
