i’m back from my break with a fresh slew of friday finds, and i seem to have landed on some dark and dramatic looks. there are also some pretty nice ideas for repurposing vintage finds into some unexpected pieces for around your home — from lighting to tables i always like thinking outside the box. i hope you’re all doing well in the continuing pandemic (argh, please wear a mask!) and i hope most of all that you’re registered to vote. cheers!

  1. this little fireplace nook is so dark and cozy, and the pendant lighting is pretty dreamy, too. it gives a quirky modern edge to an otherwise pretty vintage, victorian look. that mid-century modern chair is a nice twist, too!
  2. i love everything new york-based stylist & designer colin king puts his Midas touch on, and this living room is no different. the oversized print is super cool and it even seems like something you might be able to recreate by blowing up a graphic sketch or even an old blueprint.
  3. this living room is a vintage-modern lover’s dream. there’s an eclectic mix of textiles, new and old — and again, that gorgeous pendant lamp takes center stage, giving a stunning focal point to the room. you know i love a good vintage bubble lamp!
  4. this cozy bedroom has a lovely blending of textiles and i love the look of the throw hanging behind the bed — an easy diy idea to create the look of a unique headboard. and once again, great lighting fixtures make an inspiring impact.
  5. i’ve recently discovered the work of designers quintana partners (they designed yesterday’s hotel la bionda) and this room is a prime example of why i’ve been recently so smitten, especially their Bauhaus style inspiration. i really love the vintage modern mix and that great black and white print!
  6. sawhorse tables are one of my favorite repurposed looks. they work wonderfully as dining room tables, as well as the perfect diy home office desk. i have one in my office made from an old door i found on Chairish — you can also find the legs on etsy, ikea and flea markets when they reopen everywhere.
  7. if you like the look of this pretty nook, then you might like the book it’s featured in, made of wood by mark and sally bailey. since we’re on a repurposing tangent today, this book is ideal – it teaches you the art of seeing the beauty and the value in things others might discard and transforming them into functional recycled pieces with a handmade feel.
  8. leanne ford is the queen of unexpected design elements and her unique lighting ideas are sublime. this fishing basket is a prime example of her genius at repurposing vintage finds into functional, beautiful homewares.
