it is wintertime after all, so it makes perfect sense to head (at least virtually) to where there’s snow, at least for a little recreation and an adorably charming restaurant and bar. today we’re dropping in on bread bar in Silver Plume, Colorado — a fine mountainside drinking establishment at the foot of the Rocky Mountains, housed in an 1800s-era bakery in an old mining town. they’ve had to close for this winter with covid but will be back in the spring! i imagine it’s just as lovely and charming in warm weather as it is in winter. i love old towns like this and would love to visit either now to warm up with a whiskey drink or later on in the summertime when bread bar puts on live music on their outdoor deck. either sounds pretty idyllic. we’re going to layer up for our trip this time, with a cozy turtleneck sweater and faux shearling coat over our favorite bell-bottom jeans and suede boots. add some fun color and cozy warmth with a checkerboard beanie and plaid scarf. while enjoying your hot cocoa or toddie, i highly recommend reading An Object of Beauty by comedian Steve Martin — i just finished it and loved every minute of this entertaining tale about a driven young woman and her rising star in the new york city art world.
