friday finds HOLIDAY magazine / sfgirlbybay

greetings, and happy 4th of july weekend! we’re officially off today (through tuesday) to enjoy a wee rest but in honor of that, i give you a small tribute to one of my favorite magazines: Holiday. if you love photography, vintage-inspired vibes, fashion and travel you’re going to love it. Between 1946 and 1977, Holiday was one of the most popular magazines in the United States. Renowned for its bold layout, literary credibility, and ambitious choice of photographers including slim aarons, Holiday portrayed the world like no other periodical. The premise was simple: send a writer and photographer to a specific location and ask them to capture their vision of the place without constraints of style, length, or budget. Some of the most celebrated writing by Graham Greene, Joan Didion, Jack Kerouac, and Truman Capote first appeared in the pages of Holiday. At the peak of its acclaim, the magazine had more than a million subscribers and in 2014, after a thirty-seven year hiatus, holiday returned and you can subscribe yet again. there’s even a shop with holiday goods and a beautiful coffee table book featuring the photography from the magazine that’s a favorite of mine. if you’re a fan, too, you can often find vintage magazine issues on etsy, and follow along on instagram for their latest updates. so that’s it for me this week, i hope you enjoy your own holiday!

xo, victoria
