quite often after staying in holiday home rentals, i come home and feel that i honestly just don’t need so much of these things that surround me. my books — they’re not going anywhere, but some of the collectibles i hoard are bound for a new life elsewhere. after living among the simple restraint holiday homes often have, i just feel a little claustrophobic coming home to a much less simpler space. i don’t need a knick-knack on every surface! these spaces inspire me — they show tasteful restraint in all the right places. sometimes simple just wins. have you ever heard that rule that says before you leave the house, take one thing off? i do this all the time, and i often apply that theory to interiors, too — because it works. i tend to want to add layer upon layer of styled objects, just like jewelry, so if i remove one accessory the room tends to open up and look a lot better. here are some rooms and vignettes very simply styled that work for me, 100%. time to do a little paring down, i’m afraid. i’m not saying it’s going to be easy, mind you — i love so much of what i’ve collected, but a little less won’t hurt me one bit.

  1. What these interiors have in common is the earthy color scheme. Woods, Brown, beige, plants and textile in natural materials. This is what IMO makes the difference between relaxing and cozy vs sterile and unpersonal.

  2. Humble, quiet, neutral, open, comfortable – all come to mind as I scroll through these images. These rooms appear to be for regular people, rather than those with lots of money to invest. I’ve seen photos of homes that look like this, but the pieces cost hundreds if not thousands of dollars. These rooms seem accessible by many of the 99%.
