on trend: floating display cabinets / sfgirlbybay

i’ve always had a crush on these kinds of floating, wall-mounted shelves with glass doors, especially if it’s been DIY’d from a truly repurposed vintage piece — like a longtime favorite of mine just below — that ornate kitchen cabinet is just over the top cool. i love glass cabinets in general but when you find a vintage china or display cabinet of some kind and separate it from its base, perhaps give it a coat of paint (especially the inside shelves and back panel) and then hang it on the wall as a floating display unit, i just find it smashing. i look for these from time to time on chairish, or etsy and when i’ve been wandering the flea markets or shopping in france for super marché and there are new ones to be had, as well. one day i’ll find the perfect cabinet to bring home and make my own. they’ve long been quite popular in Scandinavia, but i’ve been seeing the trend more and more all over — and i love the idea of repurposing an old cabinet and giving it new life — living on our walls. here are some looks i love.

• photography credits and a note about credits — many of you were having trouble when i simply listed the photo credits in order at the bottom of the post. well now, if you simply click on the image it will take you to its original source. hopefully, a much easier way for you to source the image. in the case of my usual collages, i will list the links below as per usual.

  1. Hi victoria!
It’s so great to have you back for my (almost) daily design fix. I hope you enjoyed your little rest/holiday.

Did you know I live in the south of France (Provence) and that I have an old house (it was built as a fortress in the 14th century and looks a bit like a haunted castle) full to the brim of delightful finds that my mom, who now passed away, hoarded for over 25 years? You should definitely swing by next time you visit France.

A lot of the objects, furniture, lamps etc… gathred by mom over the yeéars have an Art Deco (30’s-40’s) feeling. I love them, but I simply have too much and wish to sell some of it, esp. as I prefer a more simple, minimalistic vibe for my own personal decor.

Here you can see two examples of hanging medicine cabinets that I have : https://www.flickr.com/photos/teabutterfly/3849192999/in/album-72157629891849234/ (this one’s for sale).
The other one is in use : https://www.flickr.com/photos/teabutterfly/15467724240/

    Best Regards,

    Naomi
