friday finds with french flair / sfgirlbybay

apparently, i’m still armchair traveling, again to france because today’s friday finds are taking us on a trip to what feels a lot like  paris or provence to me. i miss my travels there through the countryside, visiting the vendors where we find my super marché treasures. the french people have always been so welcoming to me, with long leisurely lunches made with love and care and with such generosity — i really miss that sense of community. i think with covid we’ve all kind of self-contained ourselves and perhaps a bit too much, and it may have been necessary to survive a pandemic, but maybe it’s also time to get living again. speaking of which, you don’t have to be a sports fan to be inspired, but i highly recommend listening to rich roll’s podcast with endurance athlete and amazing human being, tommy riv’s recovery from a rare form of cancer. what a truly beautiful and inspirational story about how best to live our lives (and what might happen in the afterlife). i hope you enjoy listening and have a relaxing, happy weekend.

xo, victoria

  1. talk about armchair traveling, @pionfotografia’s instagram feed always takes me away. i love this visit to nice’s very charming Hôtel Amour. this is such an inspirational shelfie — i love this collection of photographs, sculptures, and art.
  2. on my walk with my pup Frances this weekend one of my neighbors put out a basket of ‘free lemons’ from their tree. it really touched me, such a simple gesture but one i really appreciated. a simple bowl of lemons look (and smell) so beautiful on display — like this striped bowl from ono mao, handmade pottery imported from Portugal.
  3. i couldn’t love this signage i found in this very interesting pinboard any more than i already do. they just don’t make signs like this anymore and it’s got such a wonderfully french feeling to it, even if age has not been kind to it. but the cote d’Azur has never looked lovelier, all the same.
  4. i love the very Parisian colors of this very old, rustic kitchen. shades of blue, faded with time, and a little bit industrial, it looks like a fine spot to bake up a baguette or a savory cassoulet — or perhaps both. together they’d be delicious!
  5. open shelving always has my heart and while some find them messy or disorganized, i like the unique displays you can create with all your kitchen accouterment. a mix of pottery, cookware, and even simple ball jars with hinged lids look so pretty on display.
  6. here’s another very Parisian and pretty french blue room. sometimes i love the idea of painting a room (or a single accent wall) in a bold blue shade like this. i collect vintage portraits of the sea in my bathroom, and on a blue wall, they could look extra smashing and dramatic.
  7. this brooklyn apartment has some interesting paint colors going on, too. it’s the apartment of decorative painter and product designer Matt Austin and i adore his funky chic place and its unique and eclectic little collectibles. even the bananas hanging as a ‘headdress’ over the wood sculpture have a lot of character to it.
  8. this outdoor terrace is where i’d love to plant myself all weekend. give me a good book and perhaps an aperitif of lillet and i promise i won’t be a bother to anyone. i’ll just read and people watch the day away from my lovely spot above the dreamy Paris rooftops.
