on trend: the bedroom vanity.
welcome to the return of the cinematic, sometimes melodramatic but always very feminine focal point of today's bedrooms.
at some point in your years of cinematic viewing, you’ve seen a movie or two, possibly in black and white, in which a woman sits in front of a vanity mirror, giving her shiny locks one hundred hairbrush strokes or putting cold cream on and removing her make-up. or perhaps she’s applying her make-up or crying. julianne moore in a single man comes to mind. there’s always a lot of crying — who knows why. a director’s tool for self-reflection, perhaps? but i digress — i’ve begun to notice the return of the glamourous bedroom vanity, and our design client requested one for her bedroom, too, so i’ve recently been on the hunt.
there are quite a few vintage vanities to be found, but they don’t make a lot of these old-school vanities anymore, so we had to improvise to create the modern mix our client was hoping for. so, we found small credenzas or desks to present to her and added a unique stool or vanity chair and, of course, a beautiful mirror. i thought i’d take a look at this trend and show you a few ideas for both vintage and new versions. it’s never too late to bring back the vanity. just don’t cry in front of it. promise me.
