this week we’re transporting ourselves to one of my favorite cities, barcelona. and we’ll be dining at the very beautiful chandigarh café, which pays homage to the modernist heydays of the 1950s — in a modernist house originally built during the same years in the city of chandigarh, a city in northern india where the architect le corbusier freely experimented with his urban planning ideas. his conception was to design a utopian city where people could live in joy and simplicity. designed by studio dennis, these feelings were the inspiration for creating chandigarh café, a restaurant with a lush outdoor garden terrace dining in the middle of the big city where relaxation and joy are on the menu.
we’re paying homage to modernist vibes with our ensemble, too — a black, very cher-like halter top, cropped leather jacket, long flowy midi skirt, and chic head scarf in the same pink & orange palette as chandigarh café. we’re pairing that with flat black mesh sandals, a fringy macramé bag, and a black leather wrap belt. before you head out, i suggest reading barcelona and modernity : picasso, gaudi, miro, dali by jordi falgas and getting to know the inspiring artists and architects of this magical and very cosmopolitan spanish city.
