this week on wear this there, we’re heading somewhere that’s just a bit of a fantasy for me, and that’s a visit to the flamingo estate high in the hills above los angeles. not a hotel, nor even a restaurant — but a sometimes special event space. in reality, it’s the working farm and home of founder richard christiansen who runs flamingo estate. if you join as a member, there’s a chance that you’ll be invited to events at the estate, and that’s what i’m imagining for us today. this fabulous pink estate was once an erotic film studio (so very l.a.), and now it’s renowned for its transformation into a lush local organic farm and purveyor of well-curated farm boxes and home goods extraordinaire. and that’s where i’m envisioning we’ve been invited for a very bohemian evening, dining al fresco under the stars. in the early 1940s, hidden by its orchard and dense gardens, it became a hedonistic enclave of sun worship, folk mythologies, and psychedelic remedies — a secret haven for wild alchemy in the city of angels. i can’t wait to see its recent metamorphosis into an organic garden of eden.
