with the tragic fires happening all over australia, i’m prone to want to support them in any way i can, and that means today we’re stopping into a local australian eatery & deli, the very charming via porta in melbourne. designed by studio esteta, this deli doubles as an all-day eatery and soon to be restaurant by night and is reminiscent of the kind of cafes you find down the narrow streets of Southern Italy — reflecting on the family childhood memories of via porto’s owners, who spent time with their Nonna mastering authentic Italian dishes, and paying homage to the traditional Italian family kitchen. its food may be old school, but with a modern twist on their interiors so we’re going to embrace our inner italian chic, with a simple cashmere sweater, flared pant and sleek leather jacket. we’ll bring along a market tote with a positive message, just in case we need some deli takeaway. while shopping around, i recommend taking a listen to the On Being podcast with Krista Tippett — her latest episode with Brené Brown is well worth your time (and Brené has her own podcast coming in march).

fancy a chamring home in bath, england? well, i stumbled upon this very charming b&b on house and garden and was instantly smitten. it’s an eighteen century home, completely restored but with a respect for the past — the way it should be, if i were to be asked. this is just a sneak peek at the berdoulat and breakfast, an inn i’d love to visit. can’t you just picture yourself having a spot of afternoon tea and sandwiches in this beautiful kitchen? berdoulat & Breakfast is the recently launched wing of Berdoulat Architectural Design and the incarnation of its founders Patrick & Neri’s dream of running a B&B with a difference. Built in 1748, Patrick and Neri bought the house in a ruined state, then passionately restored the place to its former glory, transforming this old beauty into a welcoming home and B&B. for more, visit their website, and house and garden. correction: this home has been sold and no longer a B&B.

color story: going green.

Welcome to this week’s color story — the first of 2020. i chose shades of green this week because, well, green is such a color of renewal and fresh beginnings and that’s pretty much where we’re at in january. doing our very damndest to be our best selves, taking our very best shot at starting over with a positive, healthy attitude for a new year. it’s also such a dramatic, rich color and one that brings the outside inside. whether it’s adding some brand new deep green home accessories and furniture to our homes, or simply adding some beautiful house plants, going green is always a good idea, both literally and figuratively.

you’re in luck with this week’s instagram worthy account, because it’s actually a 2fer — two instagram accounts you might like to follow for the ‘price’ of one. it’s the very beautiful account of @semikahtextiles, a curator and designer of Moroccan rugs as photographed by the very talented Interior Photographer and stylist @carlaypage. this dynamic duo collaborates on behalf on Veronica Hamlet’s semikah textiles, a wonderful source for vintage Berber Moroccan rugs. together they travel to morocco with carley page summers capturing their shared passion for Moroccan architecture, culture design and, of course, textiles. looks like a dream job come true for both these creative women, does it not? for more, follow both @semikahtextiles and @carlaypage.

what’s in your bathroom?

i don’t know about you, but my bathroom is kind of my sanctuary and contains the beauty accouterment of all my daily rituals. even after moving from my pretty amazing remodeled bathroom when i sold my house, i’ve come to embrace the vintage charm of my current cottage loo and all its quirks. it’s filled with good-smelling products and my regular beauty regime — if you want to call it that. i’ve got a mixture of high-end to low-end drugstore priced products that i’ve sworn by for years, and some new products i’ve been trying since the aging process has begun to seriously kick in (who is that person in the mirror with all those lifelines!?). i thought i’d share some of my tried and true favorites (who’s still using Maybelline great lash waterproof mascara? i think i’ve been using it since i was like 15!) and some new products i’m really loving, along with some vintage-inspired bathroom decor i quite love.
