i’ve always been very inspired by this kind of modern, neutral bohemian vibe. it’s a unique pairing of natural elements, ornate accessories, with a little bit of ‘beachy’ thrown in for that funky, unexpected twist. hard to picture, right? and almost harder to explain, but i think these visuals will help guide you there. it’s a look i’ve strived for in my own home, and find really relaxing and welcoming. it’s a mix of slouchy sofas (like the togo, my dream sofa), vintage flea market finds, rattan, ceramics, even some gold gilded pieces in there, too as you can see in an old instagram photo of mine. add some great tiled floors, or natural woven rugs, warm textiles, and some interesting artwork and you’ve got this week’s color story — modern neutrals.

shop small: good together house laguna beach / sfgirlbybay

i’m on a bit of a roll here, sharing more of my laguna beach favorite small businesses and this time with another brand new shop you’re gonna just love — meet good together house. it’s a modern-day general store: charming, warm, and welcoming, so essentially everything you’d ever hope for in a homewares shop with super friendly staff and loads of the kinds of gorgeous home goods i have a hard time saying no to. beautifully curated artwork, glassware, ceramics, bedding, rugs and throws just to name a few of the lovely products they carry. good together house is the ideal name for this sweet shop because all their collections work so well together. there are some really lovely bespoke clothing pieces, too, as well as great-looking household and garden tools and pots for planting, cookware and linens, and even custom furniture and design services. their website and e-shop, good together house is coming soon, so until then be sure and follow them on instagram for all the news, including special events like pop-up shops featuring their favorite artisans and local makers. congratulations good together house and welcome to the neighborhood!

friday finds / sfgirlbybay

weekend greetings one and all. i don’t know about you, but i’m just beat this week and i’m looking forward to a bit of downtime and some quality reading with a new book on my backyard lounge (I just finished the plot and it was quite good). And should i gather the energy, maybe even a trip to the Long Beach Flea Market now that it’s open again. if you’ve never been it’s a really good one! have a restful weekend whatever you do.

xo, victoria

  1. this is a wonderful west london home tour featured on the modern house belonging to Ayshea McCormack, the founder of the small home, a wonderful online shop. i love how she’s built these rustic bookshelves directly into the brick stairwell. be sure and view the full tour — it’s stunning!
  2. the venue report is a great resource for travel tips and guides and specifically this guide to central california — the photography is sublime and has me itching for a road trip. it’s a great site if you’re seeking an event or wedding location, too.
  3. i really love this clever tufted fabric diy headboard idea featured on rue and it makes me wish i were a better seamstress so i too could whip one up. it’s brittany shields’ quaint 1930’s duplex in atlanta, georgia and her entire home is so inspiring.
  4. i quite like the idea of this eclectic collection of vases – a very unique mix of vintage and new pretty tinted glass vessels, in different shapes and shades of color. if you like the look, try these from hawkins new york, or hunt etsy for vintage vessels and vases.
  5. i think you could say that this sweet kitchen space may just be the airstream of our dreams. i probably wouldn’t have thought you could tile a backsplash in an airstream, but they’ve done so beautifully. and i love the simple, clean and eclectic collection of glassware and ceramic mugs too.
  6. this beautiful room has always been a favorite of mine. it’s spare to be sure, but i think that’s part of its charm — that and the Scandinavian vibes these few pieces of furniture and that low, built-in daybed create. i could lounge here with some good reading material for days, or at least take a very lovely long nap.
  7. this wee kitchen is so charming. it reminds me of all the small but very utilitarian kitchens you see all over europe, which can be tiny but oh so quaint with their tidy bits of organized clutter and cookware stashed in every free space.
  8. i really love @doitbutdoitnow’s eclectic kitchen with its dried eucalyptus branch hanging front and center and those pretty paper lampshades, too. the shelving is really great, too. functional but oh-so-charming.

should you happen to find yourself in Geneva, Switzerland you may like to tiptoe across the terrazzo floors of paradiso café. French influence is widespread in this city and i can clearly see it in this charming café. try and plan to arrive on the third thursday of the month when jukebox paradiso takes over the evening with a lively mix of music and cocktails to accompany your homemade and locally-sourced supper. this spot has an air of spot-on sophistication but still manages to exude the charming ambiance of your favorite neighborhood hangout. blame it on those fabulous light fixtures, sleek lines, and those aforementioned and still on-trend terrazzo floors. we’d love to belly up to this chic bar in a sweet halter top paired with a faded neck scarf and layered gold necklaces, flaired leg faded jeans, and some killer but comfy slip-on sandals. we’re thinking of hitting the local farmers market after brunch so pack your cutest tote bag and big black sunnies, and keep coyly incognito in a wide-brimmed straw hat. should you be traveling solo, we suggest reading Hotel du Lac by anita brookner tells the story of Edith Hope, who writes romance novels under a pseudonym. When her life begins to resemble the plots of her own novels, Edith flees to Switzerland, where the quiet luxury of the Hotel du Lac promises to restore her to her senses but instead attracts the attention of a worldly man determined to release her unused capacity for mischief and pleasure. i loved it!

this week’s instagram worthy feed is just utterly inspiring to me. i so admire someone who can pair a crazy mix of patterns and colors like this and make them work so beautifully together. meet @societyofwanderers an Australian brand designing 100% French flax bedlinen, inspired by their travels abroad — and there are pj’s, robes, and homewares, too. it’s almost as if the society of wanderers has raided your grannie’s linen closet but then cast a magical modern spell all over it. it’s the impeccable eclectic styling and the imaginative mismatched juxtaposition of all these lovely prints and patterns that i just utterly adore. they also ship worldwide, so be careful — you’re libel to be ordering up a plethora of mismatched beauties to add to your linen closet. their blog is quite wonderful, too. i think you’re going to find some fun and colorful summer inspiration from @societyofwanderers. prepare to be wowed!
